AI Ethics & Procedure

 

JUKTISI supports the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence and AI-assisted tools while maintaining authorship, originality, research integrity, confidentiality, and editorial independence.

1. AI Ethics Policy Statement

Jurnal Komputer Teknologi Informasi Sistem Komputer (JUKTISI) recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI, and AI-assisted tools can support scholarly writing, research, analysis, translation, editing, and other academic activities.

Such tools must be used responsibly and transparently. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, legality, and scholarly quality of their submitted manuscripts.

2. Responsible Use of AI

Authors may use AI-assisted tools when such use supports legitimate scholarly activities and does not compromise research integrity or the originality of the manuscript.

AI may assist with grammar, spelling, language clarity, translation, and general editing.

Research Assistance

AI may support brainstorming, coding assistance, data organization, or other legitimate research tasks.

Human Oversight

Authors must verify AI-assisted content before submission and publication.

3. AI Cannot Be an Author

AI tools, generative AI systems, large language models, or other automated systems cannot be listed as authors, co-authors, corresponding authors, or responsible contributors of a JUKTISI manuscript.

Human authors remain responsible for:
  • The accuracy and integrity of the manuscript.
  • The originality of the submitted work.
  • The validity of research methods, analysis, and conclusions.
  • The accuracy of citations and references.
  • Compliance with copyright, privacy, and ethical requirements.
  • Disclosure of relevant AI-assisted tools and their use.

4. AI Use Disclosure

Authors should disclose the use of AI or AI-assisted tools when the tool has materially contributed to the preparation, analysis, generation, transformation, or presentation of the manuscript.

The disclosure should be sufficiently clear to allow editors and readers to understand how AI-assisted tools contributed to the work.

Suggested Disclosure Statement

"The authors used [name of AI tool/system] for [describe the purpose, such as language editing, translation, coding assistance, or data organization]. The authors reviewed and verified all AI-assisted content and remain fully responsible for the final manuscript."

5. Examples of Acceptable AI Use

Subject to appropriate human verification and disclosure where required, AI-assisted tools may be used for activities such as:

✓ Language Editing

Grammar, spelling, readability, and language improvement.

✓ Translation

Assistance with translating academic text between languages.

✓ Coding Assistance

Assistance with programming, debugging, or code explanation.

✓ Research Brainstorming

Generating ideas, research questions, outlines, or alternative approaches.

✓ Data Organization

Assistance with organizing or structuring research information.

✓ Technical Assistance

Assistance with technical explanations or research workflow support.

6. Prohibited and High-Risk AI Use

AI must not be used in a manner that compromises the integrity, originality, confidentiality, or reliability of scholarly communication.

Authors must not:
  • Submit AI-generated content as entirely human-authored without appropriate disclosure where disclosure is required.
  • Use AI to fabricate data, results, participants, references, citations, images, or research findings.
  • Use AI-generated references without independently verifying that the cited sources actually exist and support the claims made.
  • Use AI to manipulate or falsify research data, images, figures, or experimental results.
  • Use AI to impersonate authors, reviewers, editors, or other individuals.
  • Upload confidential manuscripts, unpublished research, personal data, or sensitive information to AI systems when doing so would violate confidentiality, privacy, or applicable agreements.

7. Verification and Human Oversight

AI-generated or AI-assisted output may contain factual errors, unsupported claims, fabricated citations, biased statements, or inappropriate language. Authors must independently verify all AI-assisted material before submission.

Check factual claims against reliable scholarly sources.

02. Verify References

Confirm that references exist and accurately support the cited statements.

03. Verify Analysis

Independently review calculations, code, interpretations, and conclusions.

04. Final Human Review

Authors remain responsible for the final content submitted to the journal.

8. AI-Generated References and Citations

AI systems may generate inaccurate, incomplete, or nonexistent references. Authors are responsible for independently verifying every reference used in a manuscript.

Reference verification requirements:
  • Verify the existence of every cited publication.
  • Verify author names, article titles, journal names, volume, issue, pages, and publication year where applicable.
  • Verify DOI information when available.
  • Ensure that cited sources genuinely support the claims for which they are cited.

9. AI Use in Peer Review

Reviewers must protect the confidentiality of manuscripts and unpublished research materials provided during peer review.

Confidentiality Notice

Reviewers should not upload confidential manuscripts, unpublished research, personal information, or other protected materials into external AI systems unless such use is expressly permitted and does not compromise confidentiality.

Reviewers remain responsible for the content and integrity of their review reports and must disclose any relevant conflict of interest in accordance with the journal's peer-review policy.

10. AI Use by Editors

Editors may use appropriate technological tools to support administrative or editorial workflows, provided that such use does not compromise manuscript confidentiality, author privacy, peer-review integrity, or editorial independence.

Editorial decisions remain the responsibility of the designated human editor and must not be delegated solely to an AI system.

11. AI-Generated Images, Figures, and Other Content

Authors using AI to generate, modify, enhance, or substantially transform images, figures, diagrams, or other research content should ensure that such use is ethically appropriate and does not misrepresent research evidence.

AI-generated or AI-assisted visual material must not fabricate, manipulate, or distort research findings. Where AI use materially contributes to a figure or other published content, authors should provide appropriate disclosure.

13. Handling AI-Related Misconduct

Failure to disclose material AI use, fabrication of content or references, manipulation of research results, or misuse of confidential information may be treated as a research-integrity concern.

Depending on the circumstances and available evidence, JUKTISI may request clarification, require revision, reject a manuscript, or take appropriate post-publication action, including correction, expression of concern, or retraction where warranted.

Human Responsibility Remains Essential

AI-assisted tools may support scholarly work, but responsibility for the accuracy, originality, ethical integrity, authorship, and final content of a JUKTISI publication remains with the human authors and responsible editors.
