Interactive Reproductive Health Education For Improving Adolescents’ Knowledge: A Community Service Program at SMAN 18 Garut

Reproductive health literacy among adolescents still needs to be improved, given that insufficient knowledge about the reproductive system, puberty, and sexually transmitted infections can increase the risk of various reproductive health problems. This community service program aims to improve the understanding of students at SMAN 18 Garut regarding the human reproductive system and sexually transmitted infections through health education activities based on interactive learning. The activity was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The educational process included material presentation, group discussions, question-and-answer sessions, quizzes, educational games, and case study discussions. The effectiveness of the activity was assessed through pretests and posttests administered to 39 students to identify changes in their knowledge levels before and after the education session. The results showed that the students’ average knowledge level increased from 87.25% on the pretest to 97.25% on the posttest. The greatest improvement was observed in understanding the definition of chromosomes, which rose from 69% to 100%. Understanding of the functions of the reproductive organs also increased from 96% to 100%, while understanding of the menstrual cycle increased from 84% to 89%. As for understanding of the reproductive system, it had already reached 100% on the pretest and remained at that level on the posttest, indicating that most participants already possessed a solid foundation of knowledge before participating in the activity. These results demonstrate that the implementation of interactive learning can improve reproductive health literacy among adolescents and should be considered as one approach to health education in school environments.
